Tyler the Creator Arrested For Inciting Riot at SXSW

Rapper Tyler the Creator has been arrested for inciting a riot (seriously, that’s a thing you can specifically be charged with criminally) at SXSW last week.

He got popped at the airport following a raucous incident at his show two nights earlier, then went on to play a sold-out show in Dallas later that day.

At SXSW, Tyler the Creator reportedly encouraged fans in line to forcibly enter the venue despite staff denying them entry because it was filled to capacity.

"All you outside the gates; y’all push through," the Odd Future member yelled to his fans, according to the arrest affidavit. "Y’all push through. Get in, come on!"

Okonma apologized after seeing the crowd push through staff at the door, the affidavit stated, and cursed at the employees upon leaving the stage.

The Austin (Tex.) Police Department took the 23-year-old artist, born Tyler Gregory Okonma, into custody Saturday and released him on a $25,000 bond.

Several injuries were reported, and he was charged with a riot, a class-A misdemeanor, due to the incident and subsequent assault with injury to a bartender.

Without the assault, the riot would have been a class-B misdemeanor.

The APD said in a statement, "regardless of the size of a crowd, the encouragement of unruly and unlawful behavior is against the law and cannot be tolerated."

He joins a growing list of celebrities who have been arrested in 2014:
